![]() But it's over, finally! Now I feel like Chapter 5 has finally begun, and I'm excited as hell.Įven though Johnny's plot about him investigating the Activity Club will feel weird now that all this crazy shit has happened in front of him. Hitball out of nowhere feels incredibly intrusive, and this year has been a dark one. It ended on a pretty high note, and it made me feel excited about what was to come. Then, instead of having progression of previous points like it happens in early hitball, everything revolves around solving the match which is based on a pretty difficult to justify premise.Ĭhapter 4 was long and tedious, but things happened and there were good jokes. It's even weirder how Violet reacts to quickly, and how long it takes her to get the teacher back. They go full strategy mode as soon as Jeff throws the ball, which feels weird and sudden. Then, Jeff throws the ball and everything is put on halt and the comic becomes a bloated mess.įirst of all, the characters are too quick to react. We see Ed and his issues with Isabel, Suzy blackmails Max, Isabel brings up the talk about ghosts, Johnny recognizes Ed as one of Max' floating friends (remember when that was a subplot?) and stuff like that. Sports happen on the background while we focus in different characters and the development of plot points. Hitball was good until Jeff threw the first ball. It’s so dramatic and really ties the chapter’s abstract vibe together.Okay, I've reread this chapter and I'll say some things. I can’t think of a better way to set that scene apart from the rest of the story. This is so different from the rest of the issue so far that it actually freaked me out when I read it. ![]() The background goes completely gray and featureless. They started out with the same colorful, abstract backgrounds as the rest of the chapter, but right before the spectral energy reveal: The reason I bring all this up now is Zack did something really cool with the Dimitri reveal. I also really like they way the backgrounds change during conflicts.Ī reocuring visual motif Zack has used a lot is these squigily lines to symbolize intense emotions. This chapter has also utilized a lot of interesting shape-backgrounds: Then there’s everyone’s favorite symbolic color shift: The background matches violet’s pallet when she’s moving and supposed to be the focus of the scene, but it switches to Cody’s pallet when the focus shifts to his face and what he’s feeling. These are just a few examples of symbolic color changes. They’ve been really abstract and symbolic.Ī lot of changes in color to carry action and convey tone. starchman suzy rj johnny jhonny paranaturaltheory pnattheory paranatural re-read youmayhaveforgotteninpnat patchworm dr. paranatural pnat Zack Morrison comic webcomics issac o'connor max puckett richard spender hijack Isabel Guerra agent day dr. That’s all I have for now but I could probably go on forever because Paranatural is so complex in the best way. I also realized that we saw the “hole pit” in Max’s radical flashback. Issac Quit the Activity Club?!? Is that what this means? That’s serious!īaxter may or may not have purchased a haunted necklace? With purple spectral energy? (potential tool for PJ?) Issac Knew Spender and Izzy were alone, that’s why he interrogated Izzy, in case Hijack jumped to her. ![]() Speaking of Zarei, she was almost definitely talking about Hijack here.Īnd… had a floaty… bunny friend… in a flashback? Zarei creepy! In front of hijack! He’s gonna tattle! Hijack both called Spender a Silly Old Man (rude) and kinda promised Isabel he wouldn’t let Spender get hurt? Or let himself get hurt? He promised Izzy something. ![]() Lisa said Violet drinks for free so why did they exchange stars in that scene? Garcia was also the mystery eye from before. Also he has traps set up around the school? Garcia has super powers? Issac’s powers work on non-spectrals, but he doesn’t look at all surprised that Issac can shoot lightning. Johnny and RJ forgot to solve their mystery.
